Enchanting Strasbourg: Discover the Hidden Gems of France’s Most Charming City
Strasbourg, France is a treasure. It’s a treasure that I completely did not expect, and I enjoyed immensely.
The town was suggested to me by a friend, and I decided to take the train across the German/French border to discover this charming town.
The town blends German and French history. It’s the perfect combination of a medieval past and a progressive future.
As a University town, the streets are bustling with not just tourists, but businessmen and students. It’s also the perfect place to have a battle between the savory wine and food of France and Germany.
Your trip to Strasbourg must include these terrific sights.
Cathedrale Notre Dame de Strasbourg Magnificent
This is the best way to describe this cathedral. Representing the old architecture, this church will transport you back in time. Walk the aisle ways and listen to the pure silence in the middle of a busy town.
Canal Ride
Have I ever mentioned that I love a boat ride? This is by far one of the best ways to see Strasbourg from the ancient waterways of the old town.
The canals will take you through the major parts of the town. You will have the opportunity to go through the canal lock. It’s a fascinating experience that you need to enjoy.
Walk the Old City
A must do in any European town, the old town offers architecture and perfect European sights. Count the Bridges Strasbourg is a canal town.
It reminded me a little bit of Amsterdam and the various bridges that you walk over and the canals you can stroll by.
On your walk around the town, count how many bridges you pass over. You will be surprised.
Taste the Food
Strasbourg is at the crossroads of German and French food. Because of this, you can taste rich food from both cultures.
In my travels, I have been told to try choucroute garnie – sauerkraut with sausages, coq au riesling served with German spaetzl, and baeckoffe – a stew of meat, potatoes, onions and spices in white wine.
Your taste buds will not be disappointed.
My time in Strasbourg was not nearly long enough. The town offers countless treasures and wonders that I was just beginning to explore.
That will not be the last time I visit Strasbourg and next time I will dig a little deeper into history
